Today we sang the song and then played a multiplication game. It is similar to War, but with specialized cards that already had numbers on them. The students passed out all of the cards to their group of three or four people. They flipped one card over and worked their problem. Some of the cards had two numbers, some three, while others had four numbers. Whoever had the greatest value won that round. At the end of the game, the person with the most cards won. With the number of cards each student had, they actually worked approximately ten or eleven problems. With about fifteen minutes remaining in the class, we ended the game and I gave them a worksheet with multiplication problems on one half and word problems on the other half. Most students finished the worksheet during class resulting in no homework for the evening. Overall, a pretty successful day.
