Another week, another standard. We have been hard at work reviewing for our state test. We have about four more weeks until our actual test, so I’ve been trying to make it as enjoyable for them as possible. I tell them every day how good they are doing and how they are going to do great on this test. It is so easy for students to get caught up in the stress a teacher has about these tests. Am I stressed about this test? Absolutely. Do my students know how important these tests are? Absolutely. I have (and always do) work extremely hard to make my students feel successful and non-threatened by math ALL year long. The more comfortable students are with a subject, the more likely they are to come into the classroom with an open mind and ready to learn.
Any whooooo…. We’ve been making lap books that go along with each of our Oklahoma PASS standards. Click here to go the lap book we made for standard 1. This week we have been going over standard 2. Standard 2 reads like this…….The student will use numbers and number relationships to solve a variety of problems. The student will estimate and compute with integers, fractions, and decimals.
For this lap book, I created strip pockets and strips. On each pocket, I wrote the sub-standards for standard 2. As a class, I gave them questions that went along with each of those sub-standards. They wrote the question on the front of the strip, and answered the question on the back of that same slip. Each sub-standard had three different slips.
I totally meant to print them off in different colors, but forgot until I had already printed most of them off.
Here is a download of the pockets that I used. I know that it’s really only useful for Oklahoma sixth grade math teachers, but hopefully there are some of them out there reading this blog……
With it being state test review time for a lot of teachers, make sure you check out some of my games in my Teachers Pay Teachers store and here in my blog store! There are great activities that get your students excited about reviewing important math concepts!
