Tonight (while eating at Qdoba lol) I was reading through some of my elementary blogging friends posts. Some of them are doing the cute little “shelf elf” in their classroom. I thought to myself, “I would love to do the whole shelf elf thing, but I teach sixth grade math.” Then it hit me….. I AM going to work that cute little guy into my December plans. So tomorrow I am going to prepare my students for our elf’s arrival (because I am going to go get an actual one this weekend) on Monday. Today, I had a 100% homework turn-in rate today in ALL of my classes so I had already promised them a treat. I had also told them that we would play some of my math games the whole hour.
We are working on converting fractions, decimals, and percents so I had planned on getting them fun size bags of m & m’s and have them find the fraction, decimal, and percent of each color in their bag. I have incorporated the elf in this way, and have uploaded it to my Teachers Pay Teachers store for you to download for FREE!! I am going to post each of the day’s (as I get them made) activities for free. They won’t all be “fun filled” activities probably, but I am going to incorporate the elf theme through whatever skill we are working on. Here is my first activity that I will be doing tomorrow with my class……

This is THE BEST! I used to teach 2nd grade and we had an elf. Now I teach 5th grade Accelerated Math and I was not sure about incorporating the elf, but now I am inspired. Thank you so much!
LOVE that!

This is fantastic!! I always wanted to use the elf in my classroom of 5th graders, but didn’t know how to use him. Thanks for the ideas.
Wow! Thank you for the wonderful idea!
