Summer 2012 came and went. It was a busy one. Five days of classroom preparation, and then the first day of school finally came. Even with a few kinks in some things, the day was great. First of all, here are some pictures of my newly decorated classroom. Listen to me when I say…… I am NO decorator. Elementary teachers are so creative and cutesy, but I am a secondary math teacher. I try my hardest to be cutesy. It’s getting there people. Just don’t judge my teaching by the look of my classroom. lol! To change my bulletin board more than once ever two or three years, is an improvement for me. I focus so much on my lessons, that I usually put very little in what my classroom looks like. After seeing all of the cute things on Pinterest and on all of my friends’ blogs, I decided I had to step it up in that department. I chose a “Hollywood” theme. I found a ton of decorations at Party Galaxy. I moved my desks and tables around. I bought a carpet (I need to buy another one to make the carpet area larger). My room looks much better, but I will be adding to it as the year progresses. Here are a couple of pictures of my newly decorated classroom.
This is the view of my room from the teachers desk side.
This is a picture of my teacher desk area. I have enclosed it with another desk and a table to make it kind of a “work station” with my printer, laminator, and paper cutter.
This is a view of my “carpet” area. This is a work in progress. I want to make a comfortable place for students to work, and just a “homie” feeling area.
The first day, I went over my policies and procedures. I had the students take the following paper home to have their parents read and sign. I made little slips that I stapled to the information packet. Click below to see the information packet that I sent home. It is in Word, so you can change it as you need to and feel free to use it.
Click below to get a copy of the signature slips. Unfortunately, I made them in IStudio so you can’t modify it.
After going over the policies and procedures, I gave them a copy of the Back-t0-School foldable that I posted about awhile back. We got through the fold, but we ran out of time, so they were suppose to take them home and fill them out. Click below to go to the post with the Back-to-School foldable. The students REALLY enjoyed those!
I hope your first day of school goes as great as mine did! I am so pumped about the rest of the year! Have mentioned to you how much I LOVE my job? What did/are you doing for your first day of school?
